The UMass ADVANCE team is honored to host Dr. Suzanne Rivera, President of Macalester College and Professor of Public Affairs, as this year's keynote speaker. We are delighted to welcome her to campus for her distinguished lecture "Higher Education Is a Hope Machine."

Dr. Suzanne Rivera is a nationally recognized leader in higher education with nearly 30 years of experience. A scholar of science policy and research ethics, she co-edited Specimen Science (MIT Press, 2017) and has published extensively on the moral dimensions of science, including informed consent for research, use of human specimens, and protection of research subject privacy. Her work is supported by NIH, NSF, and other prominent organizations.

Passionate about equity and inclusion, Dr. Rivera champions the value of higher education, expanding college access, and fostering democracy. She serves on national boards, including the American Association of Colleges and Universities, and is an active leader in civic and professional organizations in Minnesota.
