 nt of Landscape Architecture & Regional Planning. Guest speakers lead week
 ly talks on major topics in landscape architecture\, planning\, and commun
 ity development.\n\n \n\nAbout the Talk\n\nThe design for the proposed Sus
 tainable Engineering Lab(SEL) at UMass had to consider many critical facto
 rs and balance several project goals: site design\, campus planning\, acce
 ssibility\, on-site stormwater management\, budget\, projections of climat
 e change\, durability and next-generation sustainability. Programming was 
 developed for both the College of Engineering as well as the overall stude
 nt and faculty population. This presentation will discuss the design consi
 derations\, review process and many challenges in the development of the U
 niversity’s future world-class laboratory.\n\n \n\nAbout the Speaker\n\n
 James Royce is a registered landscape architect\, LEED AP\, and accredited
  green roof professional. With a background in environmental science and s
 ite engineering\, James leads Studio 2112’s technical efforts\, sustaina
 ble design and development of institutional projects. A UMass LARP alumnus
 \, James was formerly a Senior Associate at Stephen Stimson Associates and
  spent two years working in the field of landscape architecture in Europe.
  James’ research interests lie in stormwater management within site desi
 gn and the metrics of performance-based landscapes.
