There’s a lot of talk about accessibility, but what does it mean for your content? Instructors want to make their materials inclusive, but it’s not always obvious what that looks like in practice or how to spot hidden barriers that some students experience. Small accessibility fixes in your design save students time and effort (so they can use it on learning instead), and create a more inclusive experience for everyone.
 

This empathy- and action-based workshop demonstrates how students with different disabilities experience digital materials and guides you to make accessibility improvements today. Bring your questions and a document, Canvas page, or other digital content, and you will leave with a more accessible product and takeaways you can apply to everything you create.

Questions addressed in this session will include:

• What is the inaccessible experience really like for students?
• How do screen readers and other assistive technologies work, and how can designing for them improve the experience for everyone?
• What simple fixes can I make today to improve access?

This workshop is ideal for instructors, department heads, communications and campus-life staff, and anyone who wants to create more inclusive digital experiences.
