Join us with guest speaker Dr. Amilcar Shabazz for a conversation about the legacy of Malcolm X. Dr. Amilcar Shabazz is a professor of history and Africana Studies in the W.E.B. Du Bois Department of Afro-American Studies at UMass Amherst, where he focuses on the political economy of social and cultural movements, education, and public policy. His scholarship includes The Forty Acres Documents, a foundational work in the modern reparations movement, and Advancing Democracy, which explores African Americans’ struggle for access and equity in higher education. He has been a Fulbright Senior Specialist and has conducted research in Brazil, Ghana, Japan, and Cuba. Currently, he is completing a historical biography of Carter Wesley and a book on higher education in the wake of anti-affirmative action litigation.
