Original illustrated children’s books created by the students in Dr. Charmaine A. Nelson’s 2025 UMass Amherst art history course, The Visual Culture of Slavery. This exhibition showcases powerful and age-appropriate educational tools that illuminate the lives and experiences of enslaved black people in Canada and the US North.
